Caring For Shitzus

shitzu mixes

One of the most common types of shitzu mixes (not counting accidents) is:

Mal-shi. This dog is generally 50% Maltese and 50% Shitzu. However, with breeders breeding multi-generation crosses, it might sometimes be 60/40 or 40/60. Generally they are breeding for optimal characteristics regardless, so it doesn’t need to be exactly 50/50. There are two different recognized names for these, varying by Club.
American Canine Hybrid Club = Mal-Shi
Designer Dogs Kennel Club = Malti Tzu

Why get a hybrid? Because, they my mixing , breeders are able to eliminate bad traits and accentuate good traits.

A lot of purebred dogs have been overbred, and have a variety of genetic issues, which can become less of an issue with mixes.

In short, you can get a dog with the best of both breeds, and genetic, temperment, behavioral problems of one of the breeds moderated.
